What is the WSL lab ?
Wabi-sabi represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience. The phrase comes from the two words wabi and sabi.
Nothing lasts, but everything can always be improved in its life-cycle.
Keeping in mind this founding principle in 2007 a research and development IT Security lab was founded in Switzerland with the help of high end italian and european researchers and software reverse engineers. The idea was to revolutionized how IT Security research was made.
This goal was achieved by completely re-designing the traditional security research cycle, introducing for the first time ever a market-driven approach to correctly value the security researchers contributions: the WSL Vulnerability Marketplace
This concept made news around the IT world and the laboratory was soon filled with research contribution, buyers and sellers.
With the high visibility also did came troubles: a perfect Marketplace of Software Vulnerabilities was too forward looking for the imperfect world we live in.
The international group had to stop trading its knowledge after controversy and legal threats surfaced from third parts and competitors.
Not everything was lost though: the unique professional skill mix and the international grade know in the IT Security area was to be carried on in different forms.
The laboratory was shortly after it inception approached by an Italian Appliance and Custom Device Developer to build the foundation of a new open source driven high end IT Security UTM for the masses: The Oneshield Security UTM.
From the founding group also came the idea of supplying Oneshield with add-on security vulnerabilities “signature” packages for the most demanding clients.
In addition to research and the strategic consultancy work for Oneshield Security the laboratory members covered a large quantity of high-severity IT Security issues through their global research network of independent security researchers and third part organizations.
With the help of another Swiss Service Company, Security Lab from Lugano, followed in Italy by the Delemont Technology professional service division, an IT Security Practice was also implemented.
The laboratory IT Security Practice has expertise in all areas of known and unknown vulnerabilities, malicious code, exploits and cybercrime.
It provides its customers with regular reports on zero day and known vulnerabilities
and also advises on protection, and provides a comprehensive set of potential countermeasures.
As a full service provider of security intelligence to businesses, corporations, local governments and organizations, the network of professional behind the WSLabi brand helps customers defend their databases, IT infrastructure, network, computers, applications, Internet offerings and IP access.
